BITUCONTAINERS
- a Logistics break through
METHODOLOGY
The
bitucontainer is filled with approximately 18 metric tonnes of bulk
bitumen and complies with international standards of conventional
20 foot maritime containers. It is equipped with an integrated heating
system and insulation. The containerisation of bulk bitumen allows
for efficient and cost-saving handling and transportation of the
bitumen whether by road, rail or sea.
The
bitumen is transported in bitucontainers to the destination in accordance
with an agreed upon delivery schedule. At the destination, the bitucontainer
serves as a storage tank for bulk bitumen until the bitumen is needed
for application. A burner running on gas oil is attached to the
integrated heating system to melt the solidified bitumen. After
15 to 20 hours and a consumption of 150 to 180 litres of gas oil,
the bitumen is at a temperature and viscosity enabling discharge.
We
supply all the infrastructure such as burners, piping valves, etc.
Our technicians visit the sites to assist in the installation and
servicing of the equipment.
Traditional
means of bitumen supply present both advantages and disadvantages.
Only the bitucontainer allows for bulk bitumen supplies, combining
the advantages of drummed and liquid bitumen supplies while eliminating.
Inefficient
handling of drums
Fire risks during decanting of drummed bitumen
Usual limits of bitumen consumption due to limited decanting and/or
storage capacity of conventional techniques.
Losses due to theft, damage, contamination and residue.
Need for liquid bulk storage tanks and/or decanting equipment
Energy cost in relation to storage.
The
bitucontainer allows for a unique flexibility in transportation
and exploitation of the local bitumen supply while reducing the
final cost of the product considerably.
Bitucontainers
have been extensively used for deliveries into Afganistan via Pakistan
and Iran and also used in East Africa.
